asked her if she meant to give me that much and she said she did. maybe it
was for the restaurant recommendation i gave them last night.

The biggest tip I ever got was about £30 when a Nigerian (!) customer
gave me the VAT form for a TV which he had bought in London, and was
taking home with him.

I'd driven him all over London trying to find the best price, and the
fare was rather more than the saving anyway!

I had to go back to the shop to get the money, and they weren't keen
to give me cash.

Being VAT registered myself now, I know why :-/

T'was in the year 1978 and I was in the Civil Service (HMSO) buying
computer stationery for other Govt Depts... when I realised that I could
do this freelance.. so had a few cards done and on my days off went
hither and yon looking for business. Blakes (Of Norfolk) took the bait
and I landed a fairly substantial contract, which I passed over to one
of my best suppliers.

Come Xmas, we had our dinners bought by a multitude of suppliers and
this particular one passed me a brown envelope..

Opened it at home.. over 380GBP... in fivers.. best Xmas ever..

In the 80's when I was tending bar in a Hollywood club, a Venezuelan
businessman used to tip me with a $100 bill every time he came to town.

The largest was when I was a cosmetology student in 1976 and one of my
'regulars' at the school gave me a $50 tip for a $3.00 haircut. Then he came
back two weeks later and did just the same. This continued for about 10
months until I graduated. He was Iranian. I should've married the guy!

The best was from a total stranger in 1977 -- my first trip to Longacres
Racetrack with a group of fellow cosmetology students. I took $20.00 with
me. I made little bets in the early races and had lost/won enough to have my
full $20 back for the last race. I went to the window to place my bet for
the trifecta. Some guy in line in front of me said, "Don't bet the horses
I'm picking, I never win." So I picked the numbers one horse up from the
three he chose. I won $1500 and change.

Ive never gambled since as I figured that would only happen once in my
lifetime.
