Well (are you sitting comfortably, children?)..

We were walking aimlessly about the market, fingering the merchandise
(as you do), when someone pointed at my T-shirt (which had 'American
Coonhound' on the front - with a pic of my Redbone coonhound) and asked
why I was wearing *that*. I looked puzzled and said 'Because I have a
Coonhound'. The wimmins that were gathered round got quite upset. I
still can't for the life of me think why. Even Mem2 said "Sssh' when I
said loudly 'What's wrong with a Coonhound?'

It's an American - English usage problem..
