More than 2,400 people will occupy Trafalgar Square's fourth plinth over
100 days as part of a living artwork.

Antony Gormley won the opportunity to showcase The One and the Other on
the plinth, as did Yinka Shonibare with Nelson's Ship in a Bottle.

Mr Shonibare's Nelson's Ship in a Bottle will reflect multicultural
London through the HMS Victory's sails.

wtf? Is this the very best they can do?

Or is this another non-decision on what should fill this plinth?

(sigh)

Damn straight it would - he and Dowding are two of the biggest reasons
we won the Battle of Britain.

It's a long story, but basically they never made up their minds what
to fill it with waaay back when it was constructed.

The funny thing is, to my mind, that almost nobody knows who or what
occupies the other three plinths.

Good word that. "Plinth". Plinth plinth plinth.

Some feel that a statue of Nelson Mandela would be more appropriate,
seeing as how the plinth is just outside the South African embassy.

/Mode=Pedant
It's actually on the opposite side of the square to the South African
Embassy, nearer the Canadian offices.
Mode/

It's not far from the Texan Embassy, so how about John Wayne?

(I know it's a restaurant, but there used to be a real Texan Embassy
near St. James's Palace a while ago.)
