A couple of months ago the hotel was approached by a film student at the
local college. He was scouting locations for his film project, and wanted
to use the hotel's restaurant for a couple of scenes. The innkeeper agreed
to let him shoot after hours, and gave me the job of taking care of the
arrangements. The film was going to be a silent comedy, the story of 2
brothers and their sibling rivalries. We set them up in one of the dining
rooms after hours, and they worked all night on the scene.

A few days later the saudent came back to the hotel and asked me if I would
take a small part in the film. One of the brothers was going to try to get
the other brother a job in the office he worked at, and I was to be the
boss. The gag was that when I meet the younger brother, we break out with a
silly handshake. The director had nothing scripted, so the younger brother
and I took 20 minutes, worked something out, and we did the scene. Took
about 3 hours of setting up, rehearsal and shooting. Screen time ended up
being maybe 30 seconds.

Yesterday the film student invited me to the showing of all the student
films. I went to the college theatre [1] at 10 AM and watched 10 films.
Some were ok, a few I really liked, and the one I was in was good, but could
have been a bit longer. I will say that the silly handshake scene I was in
got a very good laugh from everyone. Guess all those years of watching the
Three Stooges, Laurel and Hardy, and Buster Keaton films actually paid off.

[1] Excellent theatre with stadium seating, 6 channel Dolby sound, and the
ability to show films as small as 8MM, to as large as 70MM. They also have
the projectors and lenses to show widescreen films with no distortion, and
have a brand new video projection system. A very impressive theatre for
such a small town.
