Amerivespa (long)

I wasn't going to go, but Joe had said there was space on his trailer
so, at the last minute, I decided to go. A good decision!

So, we packed the two-Vespa trailer with my '69 Sprint and Joes' '05 PX
and hitched up to Joes' Honda, and after meeting up with Chas and John
in their respective vehicles and set off in convoy for Chattanooga at
7am Wednesday.

Road trips are supposed to be exciting, but after 8 hours it got, well,
boring.

But we arrived. Just in time for the skies to open while we put up our
tents at the Raccoon Mountain campsite, right behind the shower block.

But it was still daylight, the rain quit so we went exploring on our
scoots. Our campsite was about six miles from the meet point at the
'Choo-Choo' Hotel and Conference Center so we rode into town (sounds
like a cowboy film) to scope the place out. The route took us over
Look-out Mountain which is glorious. In fact the whole area is hilly,
bordering on mountainous, as we were to discover!

We saw a report last night that there are 25,000 bikers in Memphis
this week for some kind of a get-together -- Harleys and Gold Wings,
seemed to be upscale type folks with fancy bikes and "club" colors.
They interviewed a few of the participants, and (ahem) it appears,
though they didn't come right out and say it, that the participants
are, uh, of a different ethnic persuasion from most of us here in
NONG. Didn't know there were that many black bikers.

Lovely story about your scoot ride ...thanks for taking us along.
Chattanooga is a beautiful place, but I almost bought the farm in a
torrential downpour on an interstate there one scary night. Hemmed in on all
sides by big 18 wheelers who would not let me out to take my
cut-off...splashing water up on my windshield...

Sorry, Molesy, but I meet a lot of the local fuzz doing just that! However,
it was before 2000 and Katrina!

Semi-truck drivers are paid by the hour, with bonii for time saved. I'll
let you imagine the speeds they get up to..

My speedo doesn't work, but Joe's new-ish PX one does and it said in
excess of 60, which impressed me no end!

Ah yes, I have fond memories of those Honda 50s and 90s. I remember a
pregnant friend of mine falling off the back of one as it went up a
steep hill.
