9 1/2 pounds

so i got tired of tripping over the bag of loose change i have accumulated
over the past few months, so i took it to the bank. but first i went to the
folks house to weigh it. after walking 3 blocks, the bag got a bit heavy in
my left arm so i carried it with my right arm. then that arm got tired so i
swapped arms again. luckily the folks house was only another 2 blocks. the
bag contained 9 1/2 pounds of pennies, nickels and dimes.

i grabbed the bag and headed to the bank. which is across the street from
my parents house, so i used both arms to carry the bag.

did you know that 9 1/2 pounds of pennies, nickels and dimes comes to
$41.36? no? neither did i. i figured it was going to be about $20.

so with my "free" money i will be buying some new socks and having lunch
with a friend at olive garden this afternoon. we usually get the soup,
salad and breadstick lunch, as you get free refills on everything, and we
can sit and take and eat for a couple of hours and no one bothers us.

Yes mine now do a similar thing ... I presume it's to reduce queuing
behind people cashing up? Or are business accounts exempt?

I've seen those and yes, 11%% struck me as an outrageously high
percentage.

Er ... have you thought about maybe ... you know ... *buying* stuff with
said coins instead? :)

I find I don't accumulate coins unless I have a specific place to store
them ... as soon as I gave up using a tin/bottle/piggy bank I found I
spent the things instead.

Strewth, where do you live?

And, as I say, how do you accumulate large amounts of coinage in the
first place?

no, but i can wear them, as many of my current socks have holes or were
stolen by the sock gnomes.
