Guys -
In metadata preferences there are 3 check boxes; Date Created, Date File Created, and Date File Modified. Look to see which one you have checked. I don't know how this affects the sort order (depending on which boxes are checked) but might be worth experimenting with.
I am assuming that the sort is done with whatever date box is checked. If more than one is checked, then what?

To further explain this issue:
Original file order:
1
2
3
I look at each file then star File # 1. Instantly, the files rearrange to:
3
2
1
So I back track and start the sequence over (so that I can see files 2 and 3). So I decide I also like file # 2. The order rearranges again into:
1
3
2 or something like that
By now, I'm all mixed up as to what order the event actually happened. The more I star, the more the files rearrange. When I go back to see the rearranged files, they rearrange again. It's all very frustrating when I'm trying to edit a wedding and tell the story. It's imperative that I see all different camera files in order.

OK - done it. It was purging the central cache that caused the problem. Thanks for your help guys.

Curt - Thanks for the reply. I think I have done everything that John did. I only have the latest version of the Camera Raw.8bi file, and it is in the main Bridge directory and the Plugin directory. Is there anywhere else it should be? Geoff

I have this same problem. I shoot weddings with my wife and an assistant. So at some points of the wedding I will have 10+ images on the exact same second.
I use the star ratings to select what I'm going to use. If I star the first image of 10 taken on the same second, then all other 9 images jump infront/above the one I just starred. Which means that I end up skipping a whole lot of images in my selection process.
This is "Sort by Date created". So I have to sort by filename in order to do my selection. It sucks that I can't view and select in the order the pictures were taken.

Hi
I have the same problem on my Vista machine: my D300 NEF files do not display in CS3 Bridge, but when I double click they come up OK in Photoshop CS3. They also open OK in Bridge on my CS2 system on an XP machine. I have downloaded the .8bi file (July 08 version 4.5) and put it into the Bridge directory and the Plugin directory, just to be sure. Can't think of anything else to do ... What directory did you put it in John?

On my scratch disk, I have a folder called Cache containing hundreds
of files with names like Cache0000000288.dat. Most of them look to
be identical, created at the same time and with exactly the same
size. Does anyone know what they are? Each one is several MB, so
they're taking up a lot of space.
[cross-posted to both Bridge and PSE - the only apps that I can
imagine needing files like these]
