Just type news.aioe.org into the address bar and get downloading. No
registration, user name or password. No binaries but that's not a problem
to you. Carries this group, aft, nunyens and ahriii. Dunno what other
groups you frequent apart from ratucs and nang. Dunno if they are carried
either.
It works though, that's the main thing.

Ah, yes... thank you.
I have used that one before. At the time it was quite flaky, which is why I
moved on to Motzarella as my back-up server for Giganews. I just couldn't
remember the exact sequence of letters for it. I kept typing "aeiou" for
some reason!

Tried that & a few others when my ISP stopped newsfeed. It's not bad, but
I've ended up using news.claranews.com. It's not free, but it's reliable,
and does have binaries.

Read my 'Justatest' post Martin. I've used Claranews for five years now
but always with backups. Clara does binaries and that, plus the fact that
I can't be bothered to notify everyone who uses my clara email address, is
what keeps me coffing up the cash each year.
Two days with no news service at all is not what I paid for, neither is
the occasional niggle (mostly overlooked and solved by changing server for
a while) of my own posts simply not showing up. If mine don't when I pay
the buggers, how many others don't.
What really amuses me is the suggestion on their 'problems' page, that you
should go to their 'clara specific' news group to see if there are any
problems with the news service. Yeah right.
Author's note: Their email service has been completely trouble free, which
is more than can be said of my ISP whose news service is virtually
non-existent and whose mail service is at best, flaky.
But it's worth staying with onetel for the simple fact that the broadband
connection itself never so much as flutters. Colour me lucky, I guess. ;-)

seems to have done the trick.
Can't find the English instructions for Gazeta. I've scoured all three
machines. I must have deleted it accidentally. Although maybe it wasn't
accidental since I'm registered and have made a note of my user name
and password. Sorry anyway.

Although, if you're not too picky about hacking, you could try one of
these.
http://www.bugmenot.com/view/gazeta.pl
Says something for the quality of the gazeta service that anyone would go
to the trouble of making it easy to bypass the registration process.

Sort of... I couldn't post it last night. The server simply wouldn't
accept posts but it was erfectly happy to download stuff for me. Let's see
if this is any quicker.

Well... two and a half hours before the server would accept it.

..Looks like not much has changed then since I last used that server. I
went to news.datemas.de at the time, and apart from two days in three
years with connecting problems due to server migration I am happy with
them. As it is they don't allow new international users atm, and they
have introduced a four, or five USD yearly charge for newcomers..
