A while back, someone gave me a DVD full of Who albums in mp3 format. I
have enough Who albums that I thanked the guy but never listened to it
much. Till tonight.
Prompted by 'Dogs' I uncovered the DVD and had look at the contents, I
mean, I'd never heard of 'Dogs' before, so what else was there to find.
Well I'll tell you what. 'The Who Sell Out' is what.
I'm listening to it now and everything is new to me, and bloody good, but
what's interesting is that it's a concept album made to sound like a Radio
London show. The tracks are interspersed with Big L jingles and adverts
for Baked Beans and deodorant.
Apparently, the album attracted a goodly heap of lawsuits but what is
obvious from the outset is, it's bloody brilliant.

It's the album that had 'I can see for miles' on it, but trust me, if you
like The Who, this is worth digging out.

The B side of the "I Can See For Miles" single (which I still have) is
"Mary Ann With The Shaky Hands".
I danced with Linda
I danced with Jean
I danced with Cindy
Then I suddenly seen
Mary Ann with the shaky hands
What they've done to her man
Those sha-a-a-a-aky hands

I'm afraid that being a child of the sixties, for me, The Who, like The
Stones were predominantly a singles band. I bought all the singles but no
albums till later. As such, I certainly missed some treats, if this album
is anything to go by.
Must dig out my black plastic copy of 'A quick one'. Hardly played over
the years, I only remember Boris the Spider from it.
