I had a serious bout with Scarlet Fever when I was a kid - it took away
50%% of the hearing in one ear, caused me to need glasses at age 6 and
just about moved me to a home under the grass. Fortunately, it failed
to do the latter, and my hearing almost returned over the years after
the disease went - I've worn glasses ever since and hate to think of
what lenses and frames have cost me over the years.
