Johnny Walker has just played something *dreadful* on Radio2. It is a song
by Kate Nash. She was singing (for want of a better term) in the most
hideous mockney accent. She sounded like a refugee from EastEnders.
The song was obviously a radio edit, as it had the words "bitch" and "shit"
edited out - but in a fashion that made it absolutely clear just what those
words were. I think it was intended to cause as much offence as possible. I
just thought it was childish and sad, so I turned the song off.
There seems to be a tendency for young "musicians" to copy each other
slavishly. The Killers, The Feeling, The Kaiser Chiefs, The Hoosiers,
Scouting For Girls, Razorlight... they all look exactly the same and they
all sound exactly the same. It's the same with Lily Allen, Corrine Bailey
Rae, Kate Nash and Kate Rusby.
I reckon that they're all made out of ticky-tacky.

Interesting point of view. I've just been listening to Kirstin Hersh. Very
nice.

Even Elton John is better than Elton John. The Elton John that originally
partnered Bernie Taupin is at least a light year better than the prancing
ninny of later years.

Well... better than the really commercial stuff that he did in the 80s.
His latest album, "The Captain And The Kid", is a return to form, no doubt
due to the fact that Elton has reunited with Bernie Taupin.
"The Captain And The Kid" is a sequel to "Captain Fantastic And The Brown
Dirt Cowboy", with only a short gap of 31 years in between.

True enough. It's quite good but Captain Fantastic was the peak and not
easy to follow. Even 31 years later.
