At the time, the US armed forces didn't allow women into combat posts. The
concept of a woman lecturing in Air Combat Manoeuvring - and the USN aircrew
listening - was absolutely ludicrous!

It's not so silly these days, so I'm quite willing to accept Col Samantha
Carter flying an F-16 in combat!

The compressor stall and subsequent flat spin sequence was quite accurate,
as was the bit with Goose ejecting into the canopy. What was just stupid
was the "hit the brakes and they fly right by" sequence. Just about the
first thing that a fighter pilot learns is that you *never* voluntarily
carry out a manoeuvre that reduces your kinetic energy.
