  Water 'widespread' on early Mars

Author: Garrison Hilliard
Date: Jul 19, 2008 13:46

Water was once widespread on Mars, data from a Nasa spacecraft shows,
raising the prospect that the Red Planet could have supported life.

Researchers found evidence of vast lakes, flowing rivers and deltas on
early Mars, all of which were potential habitats for microbes.

They also discovered that wet conditions probably persisted for a long
time
on the Red Planet.

Details appear in the journals Nature and Nature Geoscience.

One study shows that vast regions of Mars' ancient highlands, which cover
about half the planet, contain clay minerals - which can form only in the
presence of water.
Volcanic lavas buried the clay-rich regions during subsequent, drier
periods of the planet's history, but impact craters later exposed them at
thousands of locations across Mars.

The data comes from the CRISM (Compact Reconnaissance Imaging Spectrometer
for Mars) instrument on the US space agency's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter
spacecraft.

There is an alternate explanation than scam for what the lamas are
doing. It involves a dead yeti. Rushed for time those ancient monks
scalp the animal and preserve the scalp. Years pass and the yeti
scalp wears out through use. The lamas make a replacement out of
serow hide. Since it represents the original scalp it comes to
symbolize the scalp, and as the symbol it comes to be the scalp.
(Symbolism can be strange and irrational). Whenever each surrogate
scalp wears out it gets replaced by a new surrogate scalp. And over
the centuries people come to think of each new imitation as being the
original scalp. It's a variation on the old "Abraham Lincoln's Axe"
story.

"I've replaced the haft seven times, and the axe head three times,
but it's his axe."

Thanx! I'll rest easier knowing that bit of info! They can have my organs,

France may have to reconsider its medical definition of death after a
heart-attack victim came alive in the operating theatre as doctors
were about to remove his organs for transplant.

The 45-year-old at the centre of the controversy collapsed close to
the La Piti=E9-Salp=EAtriere hospital. Efforts were made to revive him at
the scene, and more elaborate procedures continued at the hospital for
90 minutes. As surgeons were preparing to remove his vital organs, the
man began to breathe unaided. His pupils moved and he showed signs of
pain. His heart started to beat again. After several weeks during
which he was gravely ill, the man can now walk and talk. He has yet to
be told that doctors were ready to remove his organs.

You haven't kept in touch, now have you? And the mainstream media
isn't all that interested in the story after all these years. Not
unless it's something visual and gooney they can pop in at the end of
the show.

Shallow? Journalists have all the depth of a creationist group doing
it for a lark.

This reminds me of way back when I first started using computers. I did
most of my computer socializing on the old "bulletin boards" and belonged
to four or five here in Wichita, Kansas.

One of the boards had a very active group of Bigfoot hunters here in
Kansas. According to them, Bigfoot was wandering all over the state;
although it was only the members of that particular group that had any
information about it.

Haven't heard of any Kansas sightings since.

ET panel backer won't let critics bring him down
By Lisa Ryckman, Rocky Mountain News (Contact)

Jeff Peckman is a 54-year-old who lives with his parents, promotes
technology that supposedly creates harmony by manipulating electromagnetic
fields and is behind an initiative to form a commission on
extraterrestrials in Denver.

An easy target, to say the least: over the top, outside the box, off his
rocker or ahead of his time?

"He's less ahead of his time if you put him in Boulder," said a friend,
Jeff Mettais. "He's more ahead of his time in downtown Denver."

Peckman is derided, dismissed and deemed a doofus by detractors. But his
family and friends consider him smart, funny and level-headed, a visionary
who's not afraid to toss a spark into the tinderbox of public policy, even
if he gets a little singed.

It's a stunt, and it's stupid. Thanks to trolls and obstinate fools
even the best photographs will convince no one. There are those who
would declare victory even if the subject had a human head sticking
out of an ape costume, and those who would declare victory even if
the subject was standing right next to a human. Or, better yet,
holding said human up over his head. A tall, heavy human at that.

Finding the needed evidence will take years of on site research. Even
if no evidence is found it would still tell us something.

BTW, how often do bears twist and wrench foliage the way gorillas do?
Has it been observed? Has it been recorded?
