I can't remember who supplied the only knowledgeable reply to my
question (of about a year or two ago) about why Walkmans eat
batteries like they were candy, while a small Sony *radio with a
5" speaker* works for a year on its set of batteries. The answer
was, basically, "inefficiency". I didn't /quite/ buy it in spite
of the person's obvious knowledge of electronics etc.

In case you don't want to bother going there (very nice
nostalgia site!), the answer is they use a DC-DC voltage step-up
circuit required to run the extremely tiny and sophisticated
electronics and motors. One component of the WM-F10 required 12
volts! And it ran on ONE 1.5V AA battery (for about 5 hours).

(My question was specifically about that one, one of the {IMO}
greatest Sony inventions ever, cassette-box size, and the first
- along with the (no radio) WM-10 - to use the earbud phones.)

Did the whole nine yards, celebrated New Years, burned some Christmas
trees, watched the fireworks, wished I was 18 again (damn, them girls
weren't around back then) froze my ass off. Hope you all have a good
one, it can't get worse.

I've tried using this function so many times it's not funny and it never
works the same way again once I close and reopen a program.

For example, I'm in a program and I use the File-Open window function. I
right click on "Size" because I want that window to be bigger. I drag it
out to the size I want it.

I go ahead and open whatever file I want, use it and close the program.

But the next time I use the program, it doesn't remember that bigger size,
it goes right back to a tiny Open-File window again.

This drives me bonkers. Is there any fix for it?

I am following up to a thread from a long time ago in which I
said that Sony invented VHS and sold it to JVC because Sony
considered its quality unacceptably low, and that JVC made it
cheap, called themselves "The Inventors Of VHS" and made it the
predominant home format.

Someone responded and pointed to a Wikipedia article in which it
says that Sony developed the basic principles of a
