could you please clear out how this should work? ... this machine, the .rpm files are not very useful. You can extract the files from the file foo.deb file by doing ar xv foo.deb This will usually create three files named debian-binary control.tar.gz data.tar.gz data.tar.gz contains the actual data. Extract it using zcat data.tar.gz | tar -xvf - Or talk to your sysadmin to install more up-to-date libraries :-) Thomas
