... When I grew up, there was a bar practically on every corner in both the white and black neighborhoods. Drinking National Bohemian which had a huge brewery in Highlandtown was a city pastime. "Bawlmer" was always working class, not rich and educated like, e.g., Seattle. Being working class and poor with readily-available booze didn't translate into the crime it has today. Your visit ...
