ATC is there to help you. If you tell them your are a student pilot, they will go out of their way to give you extra help. There are two thing I do when I talking on the radio. The person you are talking to was once a student, too, and had the same problems with using the radio as you do. I think of the person I'm talking to is a friend of mine.
