You seem to be a different individual than the one I was responding to ("Barry"), so I'm not sure how much of Barry's problem statement applies to you. Obviously the email provider is different. I am guessing that you only use AOL mail through their special portal, or via a web browser? I am not aware of AOL releasing a fix that will set up their webmail as the default email service in Vista

Thanks for your help. I was afraid that's what it might be, and since I have to run Trend (required by my office if i want access to my work files from home) guess I'll have to stick with using web mail. Your experience is not at all uncommon, and it certainly isn't limited to Microsoft email programs. Before you delete that account, go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Servers. Write down what you see there. Also go to the Advanced tab and notice if the default ports are used (no SSL): port 110 for incoming, and port 25 for outgoing. If so, no need to write that down because those are default values. For future reference, your mail provider probably has a web page with
