They got banned from the roads here after some government department did tests on them and found that they all had a braking defect which caused them all to veer away from a straight line under braking. I was following a Transit van on the M4 a few years ago when it suddenly veered hard left across one lane (fortunately without hitting anything) and acros the hard shoulder where it bounced onto its two nearside wheels as it hit the bank. ... I also expect that the actual cause will be nothing that's been mentioned by the media so far. Temperature probe - yeah - right. Very unusual in my recollection for a (young!) a/c to veer away catastrophically from a dead engine in good conditions on t/o. Implies something very bad happened, and of course you're right - it would be a chain of events. Reminds me of the Concorde....
