In a scenario where we want to go Backup to Disk to Tape, is it typical to use VSS and then backup the VSS copies to tape? We have an iSCSI SAN that can use a VSS provider. We have BackupExec 10d. I am wondering if using VSS makes better sense then simply using BackupExec to backup to disk and then eventaully backing those files onto tape. Thanks

...to avoid this problem ? As far as I can tell, all providers work on a per-volume basis, so they'd all run into the same problem. The requestors (backup apps) can look into the volumes and, with some application knowledge, do the right thing. For example it could compare folders between the original and shadow volume, and conclude to not include the folder in the incremental backup onto tape.
