I've noticed that V Australia are using a 777 on their Sydney to LA route. Is this such a good idea? I mean, the 777 only has 2 engines, so if something were to happen to one of them, would the plane be able to fly with just the 1 engine? Would you really want to risk it on a 15-hour non-stop flight over the Pacific Ocean? I'd much rather be in a 4 engine jet.

Why is a 777 a better aircraft for these types of ops than a 744? ie. isn't a 747 "safer" for long haul flights over water with 4 engines as opposed to the 777's two engines? And what makes the 777 more fuel efficient?

But for one would love to see 777 with skippy on the tail There is no Iron Clad ... airbus sem to suffer prior to introduction .Thus a new generation 777 may save not only Boeings bacon but some fleets also --time will... Currently, take for example the wings on the A380, these can be used for other modified variants of the A380. Nice insight thanks Phil....
