.... Ultrix ran on VAX and MIPS, and was AFAIK never ported to Alpha. It was a straight 4.x BSD implementation and didn't have the slightest resemblance to VMS. OSF/1 (later renamed to True64 Unix) was DECs Unix implementation for Alphas, but that didn't have anything to do with VMS either. AFAIK OpenVMS was a straight port of VMS to the Alpha (and later Itanium) architecture. Presumably ...

When you think about it, emacs runs on a number of non-free platforms, such as Windows, VAX, Solaris, True64 etc. There are also many modes which interact with non-free applications, such as sql-mode, plsql-mode etc. I also know people use emacs modes to edit sources used with non-free software, such as ...
