could it be that La Jetee by Chris Marker was inspired by Orson Welles's The Trial--especially the opening illustrated sequence. both mooies blend futuristic modernism/sci-fi elements with an overpowering sense of the past. this was true of kafka's book itself but even more so of welles film made in the early 60s when the International Style was spreading across the european landscape. so, the
