andy, it seems to me it's a purity problem. jsut for giggles etc, try rotating the tv say 90 deg and see if the color splotches move or disappear. if so it may actually take care of itself as Sony and other manufacturers have auto degaussing circuits but they only do a lil bit at a time unlike the degaussing coil I would carry in my tool kit when I worked on tvs in a past life "OCSDFW" <ocsdfw@yahoo
