took Scout out for his morning walk down the driveway & there a young (relatively, about 25 years old) snapping turtle digging a nest in the garden edge along the driveway. she laid about a dozen eggs & is now safely back across the street to her pond. when she was done i tagged her shell with blue spray paint so i can keep an eye on her. it's likely she'll be back next spring to lay
