Hello to all, Do any of you knowledgeable people happen to know if a release date has been determined for the ECM recording of Schnittke's 9th Symphony (and Raskatov's "Nunc Dimittis")? I have googled repeatedly and the best info I can come up with is that Dennis Russell Davies, the Dresden Phil and The Hilliard Ensemble had intended to record the work in January of this year. Well, I listened to a good number of the sound clips from the Tower website, and I have to say that I don't think I will ever come to terms with Schnittke's wacky polystylism. The neo-baroque bits sound like something I could have written myself, but most of it sounds like a week's supply of canned goods falling off a pantry shelf. So, not much point in my investing the time to try to make

I dove into Schnittke in 2005 after having read Alex Ross's New Yorker piece on the composer. If I had to recommend some recordings, this is what would head my list: 1) Faust Cantata on BIS 2) Viola Concerto: All the recordings I've heard of this are quite good, but a few really stand out: either Bashmet recording (the BMG has better sound) or Isabelle van Keulen (on Koch) 3) Gidon Kremer's
