How can I change this strange date to be *automatically* something more convenient, e.g. the due date?

How do I make Saturday and Sunday be half the size of a week day in calendar monthly viewlike it was in outlook 2003. It is difficult to glance at my calendar and see in weekly view i can remove non work days but in monthly view there seems to be no option to reduce the size of non workdays to visually distinguish them from work days.
