Neil, I use a 12" Craftsman for several years also, about 20 years. Because the 18" Rikon got the best reviews I ordered the 18" model to replace my Craftsman. As far as I was concerned I got too little for what I was expecting. The biggest problem was with tracking and with 2 weeks of use learned to hate roller bearings in general. That was the deciding factor
