Once the code reaches a certain point, Microsoft often releases pre-release code to the public (betas and releace candidates) and accepts bug reports and feedback. If all you want to do is use Windows 7 before it is released, you don't need to do anything except wait for a public

In solaris you don't replace a bad disk (c1t0d0) with HS (hot spare) and then add a new HS, you need replace physically bad disk for other new resync this and release the HS (c1t5d0), at this moument the HS (c1t5d0) are available and waiting for a new bad disk.
