The formula for SQL data is: Data source size x (1 + log change) / (alert threshold - .05), where log change is 0.06 (6%%) in typical scenario and alert threshold is 0,9 (90%%) in typical scenario per http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff399599.aspx So if I'm calculating it right, it should be (for DB size 30MB): 30 x (1+0.06) / (0,9-0.05) = 37,4MB, nowhere near 1GB etc.
