I called back and they scheduled me an interview in two weeks. They have a UNION and pay about DOUBLE what my last job paid, and they are hiring for full time, not temps. This is interesting. Turns out the snafu was related to issues which had been divulged on resume, application and during the successful interview but which the HR person, on her own apparently, determined was grounds to refuse to honor the job offer. Nothing criminal or anything, and nothing to do with Group1. In fact, Group1 is pretty miffed for being made the scapegoat as it were.
