We were raised on pork and beans. To cut the cost of living, we had to eat a can a day.. Our resources being so limited required that we make the most creative use of the little we had. But pork and beans became a religious thing for me.. because it reminded us of when life was lived in hardship like a judicious whip was on my ass to put me in place.. 'He who does not work.. does not eat..'
