My bad, I forgot to index the array element. Attached is my full version of the working code, which I tested briefly with an Access database and found to work just fine. In particular, the line you really need to change is: [LI]<cfoutput><a href="?id=#Variables.categories["id"]#">#Variables.categories["name"]#</a></cfou tput></li> Let me know if you have any trouble, it should work

Hello William, Thanks for all your help so far, I greatly appreciate it! I tried the code you gave me and struggled for several hours guessing and checking trying to get around the errors. I finally have it so the code appears to be executing all the way down to the [LI] It gets hung up on the following variables #Variables.categories["id"]#" #Variables.categories["name"]# saying

Hi pajonas, My take on this is that the easiest thing to do is hit your database one time and get all the necessary data and then use query of queries to get the subcategories as necessary. This is good for performance reasons (more trips to the DB is always a pain). Note that this works for the 2-level deep scheme you seem to have now, if you need to recurse further this strategy would

Hello, My current coldfusion website has a left hand navigation bar that I would like to have sub categories flyout with javascript that I will use. I am having trouble querying the database to have the subcategories line up under their parents.
