Put this in the "play as written" category. In Legnani op20 #29 measures 5-8 there is an accent to be played on the second beat. In all of the decent and lousy performances of #29 on youtube, I have yet to see one where the player noticed that the 3rd string doesn't serve very well to thumb the accent, but if you play those measures at VIth position instead of Ist, the thumb can bang out the
