"Long Day's Journey Into Night" is widely held to be playwright Eugene O'Neill's masterwork. The play, broadly autobiographical, shows a single day in the life of the Tyrone family. Father James a retired hack actor, older brother Jamie an alcoholic, young brother Edmund a sensitive consumptive and mother Mary a morphine addict. Written in 1942 it was never meant to be performed. O'Neill
