It took AGES for even twin engined aircraft to be certified for journeys that took them over the sea for any significant distance for exactly this reaon. See ETOPS. ..., and at 10:00AM, the heat in the area was extremely uncomfortable. For a country that regularly has 35 C days, it will not be an enjoyable experience to get to the departure gate early. I did go past the old airport during the week that I was in BKK, and only saw some Lockheed L1011's sitting there. Local THAI airline uses these ( forget the name) Regards from China...........Peter
