How to organise distribution lists in alphabetical order?

I have created several distribution lists in contacts. I think through using the category button they appeared at the end of my thousands of contacts. Now they are intermingled with all my addresses. How can I get them to go back to the end or the beginning?

I realize that at very small scales one person can do "everything," home/work location and equipment is often intermingled, etc... but that should be a hump in getting from, e.g., a village to a real city or a sole proprietorship to a real corporation, and afterwards the economies of scale should kick in....
