Keeping up my reputation for the late reportage of musicians’ deaths, I’m reporting the demise of Walter Hendl on April 10, 2007. Hendl made the first recordings of a number of works by American composers for the American Recording Society, including Charles Ives’ Three Places in New England, Roger Sessions’ Black Maskers, and Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring.
