Thanks everyone for help, Had already installed Thunderbird but the Vista format wasn't on the import list. However - I downloaded an add-in from their site which when installed imports Vista mail (*.EML) files. Problem solved. Note you can import whole folders in one go but if you have subfolders in you Inbox and import the whole Inbox your messages wont remained sorted in subfolders.
