Is it possible you never set your drive region in XP or Vista?? I wouldn't think XP would play dvds either but not sure. Check the drive's properties, just checked mine and they're both region 1 and I know I didn't set them in Vista. I must have set them in XP. Hi Jerry I to had this problem when i brought my laptop and was disappointed that i had to purchase a decoder for this. However, I used an xp windows media decoder 10 version and this worked well with no issues. You would have to download this from microsoft free and save it to a disc for future referrences. If you have problems with this send me an e mail trunxz4u@hotmail.com and we

Thanks you two for the informative posts... This was a system I took over, so I don't know if any "rogue" codecs are installed. I went back to just the Intervideo MPEG2 (as shown by DecCHeck) and I still have a video lag on MPEG2's & DIVX with WMP. Funnily enough, when using their proprietary players respectively, the video plays fine. Could it have anything to do with "DirectShow"

What codec pack did you install? I notice the pirated "DIVX Audio" codec on your system. I apologize: if you're installing any codec pack that installs the hideously old "DivX Audio" hack, as far as I'm concerned your computer is not in any sort of interesting state: it's just broken. Do not trust codec packs without REALLY good reason. Do not trust people that tell you to download

Because home premium and ultimate come with DVD decoders, yet you've listed about 3 manufacturers there, and only one set of those can be in use at a time. It's quite possible that one manufacturers audio decoder and another manfacturers video decoder are in use. The DecCHeck program
