Thanks you two for the informative posts... This was a system I took over, so I don't know if any "rogue" codecs are installed. I went back to just the Intervideo MPEG2 (as shown by DecCHeck) and I still have a video lag on MPEG2's & DIVX with WMP. Funnily enough, when using their proprietary players respectively, the video plays fine. Could it have anything to do with "DirectShow"

I apologize: if you're installing any codec pack that installs the hideously old "DivX Audio" hack, as far as I'm concerned your computer is not in any sort of interesting state: it's just broken. Do not trust codec packs without REALLY good reason. Do not trust people that tell you to download

I'm not sure I've heard about sync issues in Vista DVD playback - which version do you have - Home Masic ? Because home premium and ultimate come with DVD decoders, yet you've listed about 3 manufacturers there, and only one set of those can be in use at a time. It's quite possible that one manufacturers audio decoder and another manfacturers video decoder are in use. The DecCHeck program

My WMP stopped playing DVD when it detected editing software on my computer ( I'm assuming). I get the message "there is a problem with the digital copy protection". So I just play with Nero. No problem. "Ted F" <freesky2@sbcglobal.net> wrote in message news:49F94EA2-9EB4-4D72-A14B-FB440BA9F96F@microsoft.com... > More Info... > > OK, > > About two weeks ago I could play retail movie

You have a kajillion MPEG filters. Why? That's a road to ruin and probably where this broke. If you really need MPEG filters from 10 different vendors on your system you're going to need a DirectShow filter manager to make sure the right ones (in this case the Microsoft codecs that were already there and working) get used. DirectShow is a pretty open system, so if you install stuff to your

More Info... OK, About two weeks ago I could play retail movie DVD's in the Vista Windows Media Player, now I can't. I have not installed any other software or changed anything. In fact everything has been like it is for a year now. Of course, I could use the other DVD players I have installed, but, I like to use Vista Windows Media player overall.
