I suggest not using Home Basic; it was a bad idea and it shouldn't exist. It really isn't appropriate for much more than surfing the Internet and doing email. Anyone who starts out on a PC thinking that's all they need will eventually end up in these groups trying to find the features they are missing. And most will end up here right away because they don't realize when they call Dell that

There is a multi-codec called K-Lite (search Google), I don't have any idea of what actual codecs are included. Some programs will try to download the missing codec. Window Media Player often can find a working codec, but not always

I loaded the VLC media player and it works. Thank you very much. But, I would still like to know why media player 11 and PowerDvd would not work. I use Vista Ultimate x64. From what I have read it says that Ultimate is supposed to have media capabilities built in. Thanks very much for the link to VLC. At least I can play DVDs. Any idea if it will work on Blu-Rays?
