I couldn't agree more. As a conversationalist, he's often amusing and highly abrasive at the same time. He makes it quite plain that, while he's passionately interested in many things, the opinion of other people is not among them. Weirdly, he tries to be friendly even while dissing whomever he's talking to. Playtesting a game with him (I did so with Holy Roman Emperor) is a fairly painful

Michael, Interesting reply! I've played the game often with people in Dallas, so my variant is only very partially influenced by that one game (that you remember so much better than I do). I believe you attribute far too much of the variant's history to that one game. I agree there is a valiant attempt to balance the game within the game's rules . . . but where we have to agree to disagree
