I have applied the registry entries according to the forum post/KB, re-installed the trend-micro software, and have re-booted successfully. All is well for now. I have already notified Trend Micro that the issue is resolved, had them close my support case. But, as you imply, i may have just been lucky with this reboot. Thanks again, everyone, for all of the valued input...

Eh, I recall your post....and it wasn't brushed under the rug. It was a matter of timing. Patches take *TIME* to test, and yes, this got botched. But releasing another fix "in the next cycle" is not practical either. The fix for the fix needs to be thoroughly tested to make sure *it* doesn't go and break other things, corrupt the registry, undo other registry changes that other products

You may want to re-read the blog and BOTH KB articles it links to. But, as you are still skeptical that it was the MS patch, let me explain: KB956188 lists no specific errors but does discuss services failing to start (sound familiar?) Hi Matt, I did apply the patches in the registry and will re-install trend, reboot, see what happens. I'm not quite yet convinced that the MS Patches were the reason, because i did not get any of the events as reported on the Blog.. I did not write down the event, but mine stated that a IPSEC required port was being used by another program or service, that the IPSEC service could not be

Hi steve. As cliff said the SBS DNS problem can crop up every reboot. making it appear that it was trend. I think the feeling is that it was the MS patch that caused you the problem Try that first then install trend. There are often problems where using the Own approach will fix them, but an in use file is unfortunately not one of them. And why not just answer the damn question? Probably because you didn't actually know the answer but just recite a memorized solution
