Windows Mail does not have an archiving process like Outlook. To backup email in Windows Mail: File, Export, Messages, Microsoft Windows Mail, then pick an empty folder on your hard drive. Then, you can delete the backed-up emails from within the WM mail folders. However, that hard drive folder is not directly accessible from WM, should you require access to the backed-up email. If you are used to Outlook, why not move that copy of Outlook 2003 to your Vista machine? No, you can't password-protect Windows Mail. If you need security, use a password-protected Windows user login.
