... first appeared around that time, and I remember the demos of how good it was on telly. It was hideously expensive then, several quid for a tiny tube. Nowadays there are various variants of it, the cheaper ones being No Darned Good At All, so I try to buy genuine Loctite brand when I can. Also, I keep the little tube upright in an eggcup or small jar, and I store it in the fridge.
