DPM 2007 creates two volumes per data source protected. You may see the time taken in disk management tool due to the number of volumes. DPM 2010 has improved on this and can protect multiple data sources (within same Protection Group) on the same volume using a feature called co-location. This should bring down the number of volumes that are created in your backup system. Thanks Saurabh
