I followed your instructions 2re, and ran regsvr32 "C:\WINDOWS\system32\quartz.dll", which said it went through fine, but it still didn't resolve the problem. Prior to this, i'd done the Tools etc suggestion previously stated, but the internet box was already unchecked. I then downloaded K-Lite Codec Pack 4.0.0 FULL from the internet, which had to uninstall my DivX Codec Pack.

You can't via FP. You will have to learn to script the options. My brother was playing some DVDs normally. No big deal, just some medical instructional videos I believe. Then he popped in a DVD of some Japanese movies, and there was no sound. From that point on Media Player 6 wouldn't play ANY DVDs with sound but the picture is fine. He downloaded VLC media player and that worked fine so there is nothing wrong with the DVDs.
