Sometimes we may overlook the obvious: John Le Carre boasts truly, as I seem to recall from some introduction read years ago, that every one of his novels only gets better --with the sole exception of SINGLE & SINGLE, evidently written while he was stunned by the Jews' successful assassination of Princess Diana. Then he recovered himself. John Grisham's THE BRETHREN [2000] a jolly good read
