...More on that in "Grundlagen der Arithmetik", where it occurs in various guises. The problem is one of circularity, seeing as how entire propositions have their meaning determined by their constituent parts (the principle of compositionality), while the parts have their meaning determined by the entire proposition (the context principle). Perhaps this is not malign ...(?) T

... big SMP machines. Maybe there are specific workloads that can make STM lose to message passing. Any time the assumptions underlying optimistic concurrency control break, STM loses big time. ... locally compositional. Checking for left recursion and disjoint first sets and all that stuff for LL grammars is global, too. I think you can do the same thing for recursive ascent combinators that you do with recursive descent combinators: punt on the problem by making the generated parser non-deterministic to recover compositionality. -- Neel R.
